Bangalore Palace

Bangalore Palace is one of the important monuments and worth visit attractions of Bangalore. Bangalore Place is located in the heart of the city in Palace grounds.

It was built by Wodeyar dynasty in 1887 and decorated with magnificent wood carvings and Tudor-style architectureon the inside.The Windsor Castle of London made a great influence on King Chamaraja Wodeyar of the Wodeyar dynasty on one of his trips to England. Inspired by the architecture of Tudor style,he decided to construct Palace in Bangalore city.The Bangalore Palace was built in Tudor style architecture with its fortified towers, battlements and turrets. The interiors are decorated with elegant carvings, floral motifs,cornices and relief paintings on the ceiling. The furniture,which is neo-classical,Victorian and Edwardian in style, was purchased from John Roberts and Lazarus.Maintenance of the gardens was the
responsibility of a horticulturist named Krumbiegel. A total of 35 rooms were built in the palace with most of them are bedrooms.

The renovation included the addition of windows and mirrors, specially imported from England, besides a manual lift and wooden fans from General Electric.The walls put up with exquisite paintings with those by Raja Ravi Varma.There's a gallery of nearly a thousand historical photos,including those of viceroys,maharajas and other great personalities. Another attraction is a dining table belonging to Sir MirzaIsmail, the then Diwan ofMysore.

The visiting hours are 10 am to 6 pm on all days except Sunday which is a holiday.
