State Government Museum

State Government Museum in Bangalore is one of the oldest Museum in India. The Museum was founded in 1866.

One of the popular tourism destination of Bangalore, the museum hosts a variety of Artifacts, Paintings, Coins, Sculptures and inscriptions from various places of Karnataka. Visitors can come across various rare and beautiful works of arts, sculptures. Various inscriptions in Kannada are found here. Wooden sculptures expert Major Cheppudira Ponnappa  are displays here in a separate section. Watercolor paintings, Plaster of paris works and other works of art are famous here.

            The museum opens from 9 AM to 6 PM on all days of a week for public viewing. The museum is closed on Wednesday  and on public holidays. It is one best places to learn about various artifacts and ancient about Kannada.

How to reach:
There are two ways to reach the Museum

  • Go to Corporation stop and walk to museum 
  • Buses to Corporation are available frequently
  • The Direct way to reach is by getting on a shivajinagar bus from market and get down at museum stop.

Another thing to remember is to visit visweshwaraiah museum which is next to government museum.
