Prasanna Veeranjaneya Temple

Prassana Veeranjaneya is one of the famous temple in Bangalore. The temple is located in the beautifull area of Mahalakshmi layout. The deity here is a 22-foot deity of Prasanna Veeranjaneya. The temple is very peaceful with cool breeze greenery bring comfort to devotees visiting the temple. The other deities housed in the temple complex is Godess Mahalakshmi.

The Anjaneya / Hanuman Temple in Mahalakshmi Layout is one most beautiful and amazing temple with the deity Hanuman idol carved out of a single Black stone and is one of the largest. The statue of Hanuman is painted Ochre around the mouth and feet are covered with silver casts. The temple is Packed with devotees on Auspicious days and Tuesday (as Tuesday is the day people pray to Lord Hanuman). Hanuman is believed to remove all evil effects. On auspicious days such as new moon days especially on Saturday, Devotees flock here in huge numbers.

The temple is not only famous for religious reasons, but also for its social services. Free medical services for problems related to Eye and Dental are provided here. So far the temple as organised 1,200 cataract operations. A specially built hall with 18 beds is used once in month for operations. Free food is provided for both patients and their caretakers is given during monthly cataract operation camp.  The temple also holds many yoga and meditation. The temple receives unused medicines from patients across the City, which are then given to needy. The temple hospital has physiotherapist, pediatrician, dentist, and general physician in addition to the specialists visiting three to four times a week The hospital works from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., and collects a nominal registration fee of Rs. 2 from each patient. The dental clinic is open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The hospital also has a homeopathy clinic and a medical store.

The temple has been attracting more visitors these days. And the reason for this is the recent installation of a 19-foot Mahalakshmi idol in a sitting posture. It is claimed to be the tallest idol in the country.

History
A little peek in the history of temple that the hillock and its surrounding were barren till 60's. From 1968, people began inhabiting the area and started worshiping painted image of Anjaneya flying with a Sanjeevini hills. The painting was later sculpted into an idol in 1975 by Shanmugananda. The temple opened in the presence of the former chief minister, Kengal Hanumanthaiah and the then Congress General Secretary, P.V. Narasimha Rao. The temple encourages young Artists and promote art and culture in the City. Cultural programmes are organised every Saturday between 6 PM and 8 PM. Bhajans are conducted on Sunday morning by local Mahila Samaja. The temple won the best-maintained temple award in 1999. The temple is managed by a 15 member trustees.
                          On Hanuma Jayanthi,the temple's charity is extended to even animals. They distribute fruits to hundreds of monkeys!

How to reach
        Buses are available from every part of the city. If you are travelling by bus get down at Mahalakshmi layout entrance stop or near venkateshwara temple stop, and walk for 15 min. You will reach the destination.
